Handover of flood-resilient community houses to Quang Binh and Thua Thien Hue

On 8 September 2023, the Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) and Hana Bank in collaboration with local authorities inaugurated and handed over 04 flood-resilient community houses in Le Thuy district (Quang Binh province) and Phong Dien district (Thua Thien Hue province).

In particular, BIDV built three flood-resilient community houses in An Thuy commune (Le Thuy district) and Phong Son, Phong Binh (Phong Dien district), and Hana Bank built 01 house in Phong Thuy commune (Le Thuy district).

Investment cost of each house is VND2.5 - 2.6 billion, applying BIDV’s consistent design, which consists of 2 floors with a construction area of 500 m2, accommodating about 250 people. As a solid structure, under normal conditions, the house serves as a cultural, meeting and sporting place for local people. In case of natural disasters, storms and floods, the first floor will be a shelter for animals, while the second floor will be used for local people, helping minimize damages caused by natural disasters.

On behalf of BIDV and Hana Bank, Mr. Dang Van Tuyen - BIDV’s BOD member - congratulated people of An Thuy and Phong Thuy communes for the inauguration of the two solid flood-resilient community houses. According to Mr. Dang Van Tuyen, besides business activities, BIDV has always paid great attention to implementing social security programs, such as building schools and medical clinics, houses for the poor, and disaster relief, etc. 

Mr. Dang Dai Tinh - Chairman of Le Thuy District People’s Committee - excitedly shared:

Local people in An Thuy commune and Phong Thuy commune are very happy being supported by BIDV and Hana Bank. These flood-resilient community houses will make a practical contribution to local development, providing people with public spaces to organize meaningful cultural and community events, improving their well-being. At the same time, the houses act as a solid roof to ensure safety for people and livestock during storms and floods.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of two flood-resilient community houses in Thua Thien Hue province, Mr. Tran Phuong – Senior Executive Vice President, Chairman of BIDV Trade Union - said: 

BIDV’s project of building 13 flood-resilient community houses in 06 central flood-prone provinces has been implemented since 2022. So far, BIDV has inaugurated and handed over 7 houses in Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, and Thua Thien Hue provinces. The remaining houses are under construction by BIDV in collaboration with local authorities and are expected to be put into use before this year’s rainy season.  

On behalf of local government, Mr. Hoang Hai Minh - Provincial Party Committee member - Vice Chairman of Thua Thien Hue People’s Committee, Mr. Duong Dinh Luan - Vice Chairman of Thua Thien Hue Fatherland Front, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Bach - Chairman of the People’s Committee of Phong Dien district, expressed their deep gratitude for BIDV’s support to local people. They hoped that BIDV will continue to support Phong Dien district in improving local people’s standard of living.

Along with the house inauguration, BIDV Head Office’s Trade Union awarded 03 community libraries totaling VND150 million (VND 50 million each) to the flood-resilient community houses in Le Thuy and Phong Dien districts. At the same time, BIDV presented 80 sets of gifts totaling VND80 million to support disadvantaged students in the two districts.

The project of building 13 flood-resilient community houses in 06 central flood-prone provinces (Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Hue and Quang Nam) was announced by BIDV on the occasion of the bank’s 65th anniversary. As BIDV’s strategic shareholder, Hana Bank has accompanied BIDV to fulfill the social corporate responsibility. Under this project, Hana Bank also donates for the construction of 8 houses, adding to the total of 21 houses totaling VND53 billion. 

Building flood-resilient community houses is the delivery of BIDV’s commitment to realizing contributions of runners under the running race “BIDVRUN - For a Green Life”, a meaningful social security program to celebrate BIDV’s anniversary (26 April). The social security program reflects responsibilities and affection of the bank’s employees, and has become a good tradition fostered across the entire system through generations.
