No.03/2018: BIDV named Best Retail Bank in Vietnam 4 years running

In the framework of the “The Future of Finance” conference hosted by The Asian Banker on 12 January in Hanoi, BIDV was named “Best Retail Bank in Vietnam” for the fourth consecutive year and won the “Mortgage Product of the Year” award for the third year in a row.

 

​According to The Asian Banker’s research and evaluation data in 2017, BIDV was Vietnam’s only bank among the Top 50 best retail banks in the Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa regions.

BIDV's retail credit grew by 33 percent in 2017, retail deposits increased by more than 20 percent and net retail income saw a growth of 35 percent compared to 2016. BIDV's individual customer base exceeded 10 million, representing over 10 percent of Vietnam’s population and up 14 percent compared to 2016.

BIDV has been focusing on efficiency and quality, resulting in an increased rate of customers accessing products and services. E-banking services made a breakthrough with the number of transactions doubling from 2016. The number of customers registering new e-banking services in 2017 increased by 37 percent against 2016.

Card services have also experienced strong growth. Net operating income from cards increased by 37 percent; credit card payment growth was above 47 percent; card use grew in volume by 25 percent; and the net increase in the issuance of domestic debit cards was 1.37 times higher than that of 2016. These outstanding results led to BIDV being recognised and honoured by international organisations in prestigious awards categories in 2017.

BIDV determines not only to maintain its position as the best retail bank in Vietnam but also to reach out to the ASEAN region and the world. The bank has been implementing a comprehensive strategy, ranging from expanding its operating network, modernising its distribution channels, and developing professional and friendly retail staff forces, to beefing up the IT application in its retail business in order to improve customer experience and strengthen the bank’s core value “Customers are key to BIDV’s retail business”.

The year 2017 was one of comprehensive and outstanding development years for the bank, with great achievements seen in retail banking. BIDV received the Outstanding Retail Banking award as well as the Innovative Product of the Year award from Vietnam Banks Association (VNBA) and International Data Group (IDG) for the second year in a row. As well as these two prestigious awards, BIDV won “Leadership in Mass Credit Card Payment Volume” and “Leadership in Card Operations Excellence (awarded by VISA); and “Best E-commerce Programme, Vietnam” (awarded by Mastercard).
