No.48/2015: BIDV honored with M&A deal of the year

BIDV was awarded the best M&A deal of the year at Vietnam M&A Forum which was held in Ho Chi Minh City on the evening of August 6, 2015.

The Vietnam M&A Forum is the Vietnam’s largest annual event on mergers, acquisitions and strategic investments co-held by the Ministry of Planning and Investment, Vietnam Investment Review and AVM Vietnam. Forum The Forum had the theme “Countdown to the next market boom”, including workshops, domestic and international dealmakers meetings, and awarding ceremony. Nearly 500 business leaders, local and international investors, and big media attended the event. The Vietnam M&A Forum in 2015 provided a big picture and sharp analysis of M&A wave in Vietnam.

​With fast and standardized process, the merger of MHB with BIDV was evaluated as a successful deal and the pioneering merger deal of the credit institution restructuring scheme of phase 2 in 2015.

At the Vietnam M&A Forum 2015, Ph.D. Can Van Luc, Senior Executive Vice President of BIDV, the only banker representative and key speaker delivered a speech themed “M&A experience in Vietnam”. Mr. Luc shared experience as well as useful information for businesses about M&A, while making new remarks on mergers of banks, financial institutions in Vietnam in the time to come.

The award merger once again confirmed that BIDV is the leading financial institution, seriously observing the directions of the government and the central bank in the process of implementing restructuring of credit institutions in accordance with Decision 254/QD-TTg by the Prime Minister. It also proves the position and reputation of BIDV in the financial and banking sector in Vietnam.

Information on the merger of MHB with BIDV:

On May 25, 2015, BIDV and MHB concluded a minutes on the merger hand-over, completing the final procedures to formally merge MHB with BIDV. The entire process of implementation of the merger took only 55 days upon the decision by the State Bank of Vietnam on establishing a Steering Committee for the merger of MHB into BIDV and within 1 month upon the SBV Governor’s approval of the merger. After the merger, BIDV had nearly 24,000 employees with total assets of over VND700 trillion, chartered capital of over VND34 trillion and nearly 1,000 transaction points across the country.
