The Global Banking and Finance Review has recently honored BIDV as the best ESG bond issuing bank in Vietnam 2023 (Best ESG Bond Vietnam 2023).

The award recognizes BIDV's pioneering, high level of trust in capacity and reputation in the capital market when successfully issuing VND 2.500 billion bonds (approximately 100 million USD) in compliance with the Green Bond Principles of the International Capital Market Association (ICMA) in the domestic market. Due to executing the transaction, BIDV has become the first bank to successfully issue green bonds in compliance with international principles in the Vietnam market.

Fully aware the meaning of green growth, BIDV has set the goal “Create sustainable values” for 2021- 2025 period, vision to 2030. Therefore, BIDV has established the role of towards sustainable development is a throughout banking operations, making green credit and green financing a priority in the development strategy. In order to increase funding sources for green and sustainable projects, BIDV identifies green bonds as an important capital mobilization channel and BIDV focuses resources on early implementation.

The Green Bond Framework is used by BIDV for green bond issuance, including 04 pillars:(i) Use of proceeds;(ii) Process for project evaluation and selection;(iii) Management of proceeds;(iv) Reporting. Moody's (Second Party Opinion Provider) highly rated BIDV’s Green Bond Framework, with the rating SQS2 (very good), thereby confirming BIDV’s strict compliance and transparency in order to ensure commitments to investors.

By the end of the third quarter of 2023, BIDV is one of the banks with the highest green credit balance in the system with a loan scale of nearly 71.000 billion VND, accounting for 5% of the loan book, increased by 11% compared to 2022. The largest sector is clean and renewable energy, covering 86% of BIDV’s green loan book with 1.600 projects of 1.300 customers; the remaining are the fields of environmental protection and restoration, water management, green agriculture, waste treatment, etc.

Not only is it a pioneer in implementing new and modern financial products, BIDV is always at the forefront of creating and developing the domestic bond market and is the leading bond issuer in the market with a total issuance scale in the period 2018-present reaching nearly 115.000 billion VND. Along with the above awards, BIDV has also been awarded by prestigious international magazines such as The Asset, Finance Asia... as the best bond issuance organization and consulting organization in Vietnam.
