No.47/2015: BIDV holds appreciation event and bilateral exchanges with partners

Danang, August 7, 2015 - The Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) organized an appreciation event for international clients and partners on the occasion of its 20th anniversary of transforming into a commercial bank. In the framework of the event, BIDV hosted many important events including international symposium on ODA: a 20-year review in collaboration with the Government of Vietnam and the Party’s Central Economic Commission; signing of MOU on comprehensive cooperation, syndicated loan contract with Cathay United Bank and ANZ.

The symposium themed “Attracting and utilizing ODA in Vietnam – A 20-year review” was initiated by BIDV to the Government of Vietnam and the Central Economic Commission. BIDV was the biggest bank and a leader in serving ODA activities.

This was the first international specialized symposium on Vietnam’s ODA activities. The symposium was chaired by leaders of the Government, the Central Economic Commission and the international financial institutions, focusing on impact, current situation and difficulties arising in the attraction and use of official development assistance (ODA), foreign concessional loans and other sources in recent years; The symposium also made recommendations and solutions to improving the efficiency of the mobilization and effective use of ODA capital and other capital sources in Vietnam for the socio-economic development in the 2016- 2020 period.

BIDV was one of the financial institutions that effectively implemented ODA projects, serving the sustainable development of the country. The rural finance projects II and III in which BIDV was the responsible agency, were evaluated by The World Bank as one of the most successful ODA projects in Vietnam.

Bilateral meetings with 14 international partners

BIDV held bilateral meetings with 14 international partners being leading financial institutions in the region and the world including Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC); HSBC, Standard Chartered, MetLife (USA), JICA, Juroku, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank Chiba (Japan), CTCB (Taiwan), Chang Hwa Commercial Bank (Taiwan), VTB-Bank Russian Foreign Trade, International Investment Bank IIB (Russia), Mashreq Bank (UAE).

At the bilateral meetings, BIDV and its partners shared information on operational directions, looking to broadening the cooperation to better serve customers of parties. The same day, BIDV concluded MOU singing with partners including Cathay United Bank (CUB) of Taiwan; and ANZ Vietnam.

Continuing the path of integration and development

For the period 2016-2020, BIDV strives to become the leading modern commercial bank in Vietnam in terms of market share, capital, credit, services, retail banking and among top 3 banks in terms of customer satisfaction; by 2020 among the top 25 largest banks in Southeast Asia, the Top 150 largest banks in Asia Pacific and Top 400 world's leading banks.
