On 23 April 2025, at the Vietnam ESG Forum hosted by Dan Tri News, the Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) was honored among the Top Ten Enterprises in Comprehensive ESG Practices, recognizing organizations that demonstrate outstanding commitment across Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) dimensions.

The Vietnam ESG Awards celebrate enterprises and organizations that demonstrate excellent ESG practices. The awards recognize outstanding efforts and initiatives on the journey to sustainable development and are expected to be among the most prestigious ESG titles in Vietnam.

Over the years, BIDV has consistently advanced its ESG agenda through strategic partnerships with leading global financial institutions such as the World Bank and the European Investment Bank (EIB). Notably, BIDV recently signed a USD 100 million Sustainable Use of Natural Resources and Energy Finance (SUNREF) agreement with the French Development Agency (AFD) to support renewable energy projects. This facility marks the first direct concessional loan extended by AFD to a commercial bank in Vietnam without government guarantees and is considered one of AFD's most successful projects to date.

As a key player in Vietnam’s banking sector, BIDV has proactively led the way in promoting sustainable development initiatives. The bank prioritizes green credit and maintains close cooperation with international organizations to fund green and sustainable development projects. As of 31 March 2025, BIDV’s green credit portfolio reached 78.605 trillion, equivalent to 3.8% of its total outstanding loans, supporting 2,132 projects/and business plans from 1,764 customers. Green credit remains a strategic priority in BIDV’s long-term business plans.

In 2025, BIDV plans to further accelerate its green finance initiatives by issuing Green Bonds, Green Deposits, Sustainability-Linked Loans, and Green Building Finance Products totaling up to VND10 trillion, as well as offering tailored green credit packages, including VND4.2 trillion for textile and garment enterprises, VND5 trillion for businesses investing in clean water production. At the same time, BIDV aims to maintain a green credit balance exceeding VND75 trillion, representing nearly 12% of the entire banking sector’s green credit portfolio in Vietnam.

Receiving the Comprehensive ESG Practices Award not only affirms BIDV’s unwavering efforts but also strengthen its pioneering position in building the “Green Bank” brand. The bank is making increasingly meaningful contributions to the National Green Growth Strategy through 2030, with a vision to 2050.

With more than 68 years of development, BIDV stands today as Vietnam’s largest commercial bank, with total assets reaching VND2.76 quadrillion.
