On 15 April 2024, Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) in collaboration with local authorities inaugurated and handed over flood-proof community house in Truc Ha hamlet, Dai Hung commune, Dai Loc district, Quang Nam province. BIDV-funded flood-proof community house not only accommodates people for daily activities but also acts as a shelter to protect people’s lives and assets during storms and floods.

Attending the ceremony were Mr. Nguyen Cong Thanh - Vice Chairman of People’s Council of Quang Nam province, leaders of Quang Nam province and Dai Loc district.

Applying BIDV’s consistent design for flood-proof house, investment cost of flood-proof community house in Dai Loc is VND 2.5 billion, , which consists of 2 floors with a construction area of 500 m2 for about 150 people. Under normal conditions, the house acts as a gathering space for cultural, sports activities by local people. When there are natural disasters, storms and floods, the first floor will be a shelter for animals, while the second floor will be used for people... thereby contributing to minimizing damages caused by natural disasters. 

Mr. Tran Phuong - BIDV’s Deputy CEO stated:  

Quang Nam was a heroic land during the war. However, the province is often suffered from natural disasters, storms and floods every year. For many years, BIDV has not only supported business community in Quang Nam to contribute to socio-economic development of the province, but also actively carried out social security programs to improve living standards of the poor. BIDV has funded 02 flood-proof community houses in Quang Nam as well as in other central provinces to protect local people during the natural disasters. We hope that when the community house will be used effectively so that it not only serves as a community cultural space but also a shelter to protect people’s lives and assets during floods, helping them feel assured to focus on working and increasing productivity, and contributing to national economy development.

Speaking at the program, Mr. Nguyen Cong Thanh - Vice Chairman of Quang Nam Provincial People’s Council acknowledged and appreciated BIDV’s efforts and contributions to socio-economic development as well as social programs and activities in Quang Nam province over the years, and expected for BIDV’s continued support to help maintain social stability and economy development.

BIDV union awarded VND-50 million community library

Mr. Truong Quang Hien - Chairman of Dai Hung Commune People’s Committee shared his excitement when the project is completed:

As a mountainous commune of Quang Nam province, Dai Loc often suffers from the severe consequences of natural disasters. Especially in the flood zone, people’s lives are very difficult and often face  danger in every flood season. The flood-proof community house in Truc Ha village is a great encouragement for people to stabilize their lives and promote production. From now on, people will feel more secure and no longer worry about finding a safe shelter in every flood season. At the same time, this is also a community cultural space for people to gather, share knowledge and experiences, thereby reinforcing and promoting the people’s solidarity.

At the ceremony, BIDV’s Trade Union also awarded VND 50 million community library to the flood-proof community house in Truc Ha village, Dai Hung commune. At the same time, BIDV Quang Nam branch donated 10 gifts worth VND 10 million to disadvantaged people in the commune.

Building flood-proof community house fulfills BIDV’s commitment to realize contributions of runners under the running race “BIDVRUN - For a Green Life”, which is a meaningful social security program in a series of activities commemorating BIDV Anniversary Day (26 

April every year). The project is completed in time before the flood season. This is a great encouragement for people in flooded areas to be more courageous and strong to stabilize their lives, increase production and develop local economy.  

The flood-proof community house in Dai Loc district, Quang Nam province is funded by BIDV by converting online miles achieved of athletes in the running race “BIDV Run- For a Green Life” organized by BIDV every April to encourage the community to participate in sports and fitness movement, contributing to social security programs towards sustainable development.

For many years, BIDV has not only supported business community in Quang Nam to contribute to socio-economic development of the province, but also actively carried out social security programs to improve living standards of the poor such as building houses and schools for the poor, promptly providing support to overcome the consequences of natural disasters... During the 2020 - 2024 period, BIDV has funded about VND 15 billion for social security programs in Quang Nam province. The social security programs in Quang Nam show the gratitude of BIDV’s staff to the heroic land of Quang Nam in particular, and help lift the burdens faced over the years by people of the Central region in general.
