On 12 December 2023, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet received BIDV’s top management delegation led Mr. Phan Duc Tu - Chairman of the Board of Directors. This was a sideline event of the 2023 Vietnam - Cambodia Trade and Investment Promotion Forum held on the occasion of the Cambodian Prime Minister’s official visit to Vietnam.

The Cambodian delegation at the meeting included His Excellency Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, as well as several ministers and members of the High-Level Working Group of the Royal Government of Cambodia. The BIDV leadership team comprised Chief Executive Officer Le Ngoc Lam, Board Member Le Kim Hoa, and directors of relevant units.

On behalf of BIDV's senior management, Mr. Phan Duc Tu, Chairman of the Board of Directors, congratulated Cambodia on the success of the 7th National Assembly election and the formation of a new government. He also extended his congratulations to His Excellency Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet on his election to key positions within the Cambodian People's Party and the Royal Government of Cambodia.

In his report to Prime Minister Samdech Hun Manet, Chairman Phan Duc Tu highlighted BIDV's key achievements. As the largest commercial bank in Vietnam, BIDV has a total asset of approximately USD 90 billion and operates a diverse, multi-sectoral ecosystem that contributes significantly to the country's economic development and major national projects. BIDV has also established strategic cooperation with thousands of financial institutions, organizations, and large corporations globally, including making offshore investments in the region, with Cambodia being one of the key markets. The Chairman also reported on BIDV's business metrics, contributions, and long-term operational orientation in Cambodia after nearly 15 years of presence in the country.

The Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia commended BIDV on its achievements as a leading large commercial bank in Vietnam with a regional and international presence. Prime Minister Hun Manet acknowledged the important role of the banking and finance sector, which is the backbone of economic development, especially in the digital transformation era and the public national strategy. The Prime Minister recognized that Cambodia's banking and finance industry is still underdeveloped with many limitations, requiring the participation of large foreign financial institutions, such as BIDV, to promote market development and align with regional and global progress. The Cambodian Government prioritizes the development of this sector, collaborating with other countries to bring advanced banking products to Cambodian businesses and people.

The Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia also recognized and appreciated BIDV/BIDC's results, efforts, and contributions in the Cambodian market, including serving as a bridge for trade and investment transactions between the two countries, providing modern financial and banking offerings, promoting economic, trade, and investment cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia, supporting human resource training in the banking and finance sector, and implementing meaningful social security programs. In recognition of these contributions, BIDV/BIDC has been awarded the most noble titles by the King and the Royal Government of Cambodia multiple times.

Prime Minister Samdech Hun Manet expressed his gratitude and assigned relevant Cambodian ministries to receive BIDV/BIDC's USD 200,000 funds to support education and vocational training in Cambodia for the 2024 - 2027 period, with the aim of fostering young talents and skilled workers. The Prime Minister also promised to direct Cambodian ministries and sectors to facilitate operations and ensure the benefits of foreign businesses and banks, including BIDV, in Cambodia.

Responding to the Prime Minister's direction, Chairman Phan Duc Tu affirmed that BIDV will continue to closely follow the guidance of the governments of the two countries, support the operations of its commercial presence in Cambodia, strictly comply with local laws and regulations, and strive to promote development and operational efficiency. Chairman Phan Duc Tu expressed his hope to continue receiving support from the Royal Government and Cambodian ministries and sectors, creating favorable conditions for BIDV's commercial presence in Cambodia to operate more effectively and make further contributions to the socio-economic development of Cambodia, as well as to strengthen the good traditional friendship between Cambodia and Vietnam.
