On the morning of 29 June 2013, at Au Co Theatre (Hanoi), the Editorial Board of the Communist Review in collaboration with the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Vietnam Television held the Ceremony to honor and award campaign medals “For the cause of hunger elimination and poverty reduction” to the excellent organizations, enterprises and individuals. The ceremony also honored “Good examples for getting rid of poverty” that are advanced, active and make every effort to eliminate hunger and reduce poverty. The Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) has honor to be selected as a unit in top 3 largest enterprises that was honored at this award.

Attending the program were Mr. Truong Tan Sang, Politburo Member, Chairman of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; Mr. Vu Van Ninh, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister - Head of Central Steering Committee for sustainable poverty reduction in the period 2011 - 2020, and many leaders of the ministries and departments. Mr. Quach Hung Hiep – Deputy General Director represented BIDV to receive the campaign medal of the program awarded by President Truong Tan Sang.

            After more than 27 years of renovation for socialism, outstanding for over ten years of implementing “Comprehensive strategy for growth and hunger elimination, poverty reduction”, especially focusing in 5 years of executing “Rapid and sustainable poverty reduction support program with 62 poor districts” under the Resolution 30a/2008/NQ-CP of the Government, our people, our compatriots have reached very significant achievements, recorded by the world. In the past 12 June,  the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) evaluated Vietnam in the top of 38 countries worldwide that have completed the millennium goals for hunger elimination and poverty reduction, in the periods 1990 - 1992 and 2010 - 2012.

            In the period 2008 - 2013, BIDV has implemented the large long-term overall social security projects, programs in all places inside and outside the country with total value of approximately VND 1,000 billion.

            BIDV is the pioneer among the Groups, Corporations under the Party Committee of the central enterprise block to undertake support to the poor districts as well as establish the financial mechanisms and policies for lending to projects and works in the poor districts.  Up to now, BIDV has implemented poverty reduction assistance for 10/69 districts getting the mechanisms and policies of the resolution 30a with total implementation value : VND 277.8 billion. In the period 2011-213, BIDV has implemented support for the localities in pilot building new rural models in 12 localities in the whole country with a total support value of VND 159.5 billion. BIDV gives priority in support for the fields such as: Education, Health care, Eliminating temporary houses and building sustainable houses for the poor; overcoming consequences of natural disasters; Repaying for favor; Developing traditional cultural and social activities.

            The Ceremony to honor and award campaign medals to 109 organizations and individuals who made a lot of contributions to the hunger elimination and poverty reduction and the good examples for getting rid of poverty selected from thousands of organizations and individuals from Ca Mau Cape to Mong Cai Border Area, from Truong Son to Truong Sa, ... is the recognition and great encouragement for the units that always take the initiative in implementing the social responsibility for the community like BIDV.
