On February 14, 2023, the Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) held the ground-breaking ceremony to build a community flood-resistant house to present to the people of An Thuy commune, Le Thuy district, Quang Binh province.

This is BIDV’s 5th project in the program to finance the construction of 13 flood-resistant houses in 06 provinces with frequent floods, including Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien - Hue, Quang Nam. The project was built according to the design of BIDV's Flood-Resistant House to avoid floods with a total investment of VND 2.5 billion, each consists of 500 m2 across 2 floors and the capacity of about 250 people. The construction, once completed, will serve as a venue for meetings, cultural exchanges and sports events and a safe shelter for people when storms and floods occur.

Mr. Tran Xuan Hoang, a member of the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Trade Union of BIDV, shared:

“BIDV understands and sympathizes with the difficulties that people in the Central region have to go through due to the impact of natural disasters and floods. BIDV has funded a series of community flood-resistant houses to help the people combat with the situation. Previously, BIDV has built 04 flood-resistant houses in Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Tri. In 2023, BIDV is sponsoring one in Quang Binh. The construction of the community flood-resistant house in An Thuy commune has been started and shall be completed before the flood season in 2023 so that people can have shelter before storms”.

Mr. Le Van Quyet, Chairman of An Thuy Commune People's Committee – shared, "An Thuy commune has a narrow and low coastal terrain (one side is bordered by West Laos, the other is the East Sea). During rainy season, it is often flooded. , leaving many households isolated and in need of relocation. Many houses in the village are not stable, not safe in storms... Therefore, people in An Thuy commune highly appreiciate the support from BIDV and they are longing for the completion of the house so that people can feel more secure and no longer worry about finding shelter every rainy season.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Mr. Phan Manh Hung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Binh province, deeply thanked BIDV for making positive and meaningful contributions to the socio-economic development in general and the community in particular. At the same time, he hopes that BIDV will continue to accompany and support with Quang Binh province to ensure the safety and properity of the people.

Community Flood-Resistant House project is the showcase of BIDV’s commitment to contribute to the society, also the fulfillment of BIDV's commitment  to dedicate all  contributions of athletes participating in “BIDVRUN - For a Green Life" race to CSR activities. BIDV hopes to contribute to reducing the impact of natural disasters, floods, climate change on people's lives and contribute to the sustainable development of the country.

Previously, the first community flood-resistant houses in Ha Tinh had been completed in February 2022 and having been put to good use in both normal conditions and flood season.
