On 14/06/2023, BIDV is honoured to be the sole joint stock commercial bank giving a speech at the Vietnam Industry 4.0 Summit 2023 held by the Central Economic Commission with the theme of “Accelerating digital & green transitions in driving breakthroughs to shorten the process of industrialization and modernization to 2030, with a vision to 2045”. The Summit attracted the participation of more than 1,500 delegates from ministries, central and local departments and authorities, outstanding enterprises as well as domestic and international experts. BIDV is honored to contribute to the success of the Summit.

At the Summit, BIDV's representative, Mr. Vuong Thanh Long - Head of FDI Banking Department, had a presentation on "Developing of green credits and green banks - Experiences from BIDV". BIDV has summarized groups of solutions and strategies that BIDV has put into implementation relating to the development of green credit products and green banking model, namely: BIDV's strategic vision on green credits and green banks; environmental and social risk management systems (ESMS); Frameworks for green credit products and sustainable loans issued by BIDV; the appliance of modern technology to products and services, internal operation process; the cooperation with competent authorities and international organizations in green orientation.

Based on the strategic orientation towards green project financing, BIDV has made some remarkable achievement. In the period of 2019-2022, green outstanding loans grew significantly with an average rate of 45% per year. By the end of 2022, BIDV had been financing more than 1,700 projects/plans with the total credit commitment amount of more than 136,000 billion VND, of which outstanding loans contributed nearly 64,000 billion VND (accounting for 4.25% of BIDV’s total outstanding loans).

Moreover, BIDV's representative also shared some practical difficulties and challenges that commercial banks and businesses would face in the process of green transformation relating to the legal framework for ESMS as well as green credit; SBV’s incentive mechanisms and policies for green financing; the participation of businesses in the implementation of ESMS. Additionally, the presentation showed some suggestions as well as solutions to gradually respond to these challenges. BIDV believes that with the support of SBV and the coordination of organizations and individuals in the digital transformation and green transformation, the goal of "Accelerating digital & green transitions in driving breakthroughs to shorten the process of industrialization and modernization to 2030, with a vision to 2045” will soon be realized.
